They're Precious Too!!
Welcome to WellCare Golden Jewels Senior Citizen's Home, also known as WellCare Nursing Home. We intend to do all that is possible to make the stay of your precious "Jewels" as comfortable, enjoyable and interactive as possible.
Our motto at the nursing home is "THEY'RE PRECIOUS TOO", reminding our community that our elderly are just as precious to us as our babies.
WellCare Nursing Home is located at Regency Park 2C, Regency Park, Christ Church, Barbados. This location is very central, yet out of the hustle, bustle and noisy activity that can be often noted in the Christ Church area. Our home will provide upscale and excellent care to our "Jewels", who are occupants or daily visitors to the home.
Our home has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. This includes three en suite rooms. The nursing home is a bungalow, fully enclosed with a concrete guard wall. The building itself has burglar bars at the windows and doors. Mosquito nets are at the windows.
At WellCare Golden Jewels Senior Citizen 's Home, we are confident that we are one of the best long term care and nursing home facilities, with a doctor as the manager of the nursing home. We tell people making enquiries about our nursing home, "Go see the rest, then come to the best!'
Dr. Bronwen Glasford B.Sc., M.B.B.S. is the owner and manager of the nursing home. She has been a medical practitioner for over 30 years and is trained in emergency medicine. She has completed 5 years working at the Accident and Emergency Department of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. It is for this reason that this nursing home is known to provide "intense care" to our residents. This may include intravenous treatment for infections, e.g., pneumonias, or for rehydration purposes.
At WellCare Nursing Home, we offer the following categories of care:
At WellCare Nursing Home, we provide long-term or short-term care for our elderly "Jewels", with a 24-hour coverage for emergency medical or nursing care.
Nutritional meals are provided with the assistance or advise of a Nutritionist, for those residents, who have special dietary needs.
We offer stimulating activities, each geared to address the level of participation of each "jewel". These can include devotion, songs, reading the Bible, stationary limb exercises, bicycle exercises, massages, walks and table games. Music therapy is a favourite of our 'Jewels'. Usually the music is the greatest, known and loved hymns of the last 50 years.
Our team at WellCare Nursing Home is trained, qualified and experienced and includes:

Each "Jewel" will be seen on admission, by the nurse on duty, as well as Dr. Glasford.
The “Jewel" is fully assessed with vitals. A full examination is done, checking for bed sores, other infections, mental capabilities, or any other deficits not mentioned in the previous information. The new "Jewel" will be assessed at this stage on the Category of Care he/she will need, while at the home.
A review of the past medical history, presenting concerns and medications are reviewed in this initial assessment. Drugs that are prescribed are noted and written up on the drug sheet, individualized for each resident. Referral letters from previous medical personal are noted and included in the "Jewel's" file.
Each "Jewel" will be given round-the-clock care by our well-trained, caring and competent staff. Often, the "Jewel" may be taken outside to sit on the veranda, or at the picnic table on the lawn. When outside, the "Jewel will" ALWAYS be supervised by a member of staff.
Those "Jewels", who are prescribed daily medication, will be given this medication, as prescribed by their doctor. Each "Jewel" is welcome to keep his/her private doctor. Dr. Glasford will manage those residents, only in an emergency, or when their private doctor cannot be reached.
Dr. Glasford is available on a round-the—clock basis, as the doctor on duty during any emergency.
Consultation with the surgeon, physiotherapist, complementary therapist, chiropodist, manicurist etc, will be on demand. We will be happy to arrange such visitations, at the family's expense.
The diet of each "Jewel" is under the close supervision of the dietitian of the Ministry of Heath. In addition to the regular diet, usually ground provisions, the "Jewel" will be offered additionally, cereal, fruit and or dessert daily. Drinks include water and homemade fruit drinks. Should the "Jewel" require any special diet, due to an allergy to certain foods, etc., this can be discussed with the dietitian or doctor and arrangements can be made by the relative to provide this special diet.
A copy of the usual menu is available for your keen scrutiny.
This is the "walking well" resident. He/She is able to attend to his/her daily needs, with no supervision or assistance from the nurse on duty. For example, this resident is able to feed himself/herself. He or she can take care of his/her hygienic needs, e.g., baths, oral hygiene etc. He or she has no daily dressings, or blood sugar/pressure monitoring to be done.
This is the resident, who will need a minimal amount of supervision. This resident needs to have daily dressings, regular monitoring of blood sugar/pressure and some degree of assistance or supervision with their hygienic needs i.e., baths, oral hygiene etc.
This is the resident, who needs total supervision and/or monitoring. This resident has daily dressings to be done, blood sugar/pressure monitoring and total care of his/her hygienic needs, This resident has to get regular turnings, when lying in bed. He/She has to be lifted in or out of bed and generally needs to get total care from the nurse on duty.
The fees charged for each "Jewel" are based on the category of care for each "Jewel" and may be subject to adjustment. Please note that a few of the rooms can house two residents. We note the distinction between paying for a room and paying for the category of care, which the "Jewel" will require. Your monthly payment covers for meals, laundering of clothes and nursing care. The family is expected to provide personal products, which may be needed. These include medication, incontinent pads, toiletries, including pampers, (where necessary), and clothes.
